About My Role.
I am a new member of the Waitematā Local Board which is the forum for local decision-making at Auckland Council. We meet every Tuesday to discuss issues and opportunities in the area. Our decisions are made every third Tuesday afternoon at 52 Swanson Street. You are welcome to come and talk to us at that time (though we can’t decide on any new issues brought to us there and then your thoughts will be seriously considered and they may, where appropriate, influence decision-making in the future). It is also possible to submit your thoughts online on a number of different issues (see below).
Most of our role is governance but we have a bit of money. If Auckland Transport are digging up a road anyway, we may add value to the project by putting in a bit of our funding into adding a water fountain. We also consider grant applications for community projects and sometimes lead larger projects that will have real community benefit. The Waitematā stretches from Western Springs to Newmarket in the East, from the city centre to Grafton in the South. Click here to have your say on issues here and across Auckland and find out more about the grants that are available:
We also consult with local business association, NGOs and community groups. I lead the planning portfolio and support Deputy Chair Kerrin Leoni on the Arts and Events portfolio. There is lots going on! Click here to find out more:
I live in Grey Lynn with my husband and two kids and I am in my third year at the Dance Department of Auckland University doing a phD on Auckland city and play. I have been a walking tour guide of Auckland's City Centre and I am an actor and theatre director - though that is on the backburner for a while. You can find me at the Grey Lynn Farmer's Market the last Sunday every month between 10 and 11am, on social media, and email.
